Daai Mangels....

So Calum has been a chronic tonsillitis child, and eventually in December we got our GP to refer us to an ENT. The ENT took one look at Calum's throat and we had a surgery date to have these dreaded things removed.

On the 14th of December we arrived at the hospital to wait for little Mr's turn to have the tonsils out.

The Doctor's secretary came around to tell us about the procedure, give Calum a teddy bear (He insisted on one for Codi-Beth too), the Anaesthetist was also very helpful and friendly. The hospital staff were very good with the kids, Dad took Calum in to theatre till he fell asleep and as soon as he woke up they brought him straight to us, he was a bit unhappy and sore ("my voice is sore mommy), but he wasn't traumatised.

He was given a packet of Lay's chips and a Coke to drink, and after that we were given ascript and told we can go home. It's been almost 4 months since they've been taken out and we haven't had a trip to the doctor yet for Calum this year. It's awesome.

To this day Calum asks if I can take him to the hospital if he's grumpy or bumped his leg, or just because. Reason being - he enjoyed having his tonsils out, obviously doesn't remember the pain or the scary part of waking up around a bunch of strangers, and best of all, he got a Helicopter toy, Chips, Coke and Jelly Sweeties.

It seems Mr Coel is going to have the same sort of treatment when he's 3, since he also has Tonsilitis regularly. I only hope his experience is also one he doesn't view as traumatic.

  1. It seems the Lays & coke is standard practice, James also got that. Only horrid 2 days were day 7 and day 9 post op. Something with scabs, but we were warned so it wasn't a surprise. Otherwise the tonsillectomy experience was not bad. Hope your second one is equally easy! :)
